Before you start on  your ecommerce project, there are a couple of questions your web designer will want to know:

• Do you currently sell products by credit card?
• Do you want the whole web process automated?  (This can be expensive if you volume is initially small, because of all the recurring fees. )
• How many items will you be selling? and
• Will there be options, eg  color and size? 
• Do you already have an existing website or a Host provider?  If you do, what OS (Operating System) is used?  eg is it a linux or windows based server?
• Other then product pages, what other pages do you plan to have on your website?  and
• What are some sample websites you like?
• Have you thought about how you are going to market your website?

Sometimes the best approach is to integrate a third party shopping cart or to subscribe to a third party ecommerce solution.

Ecommerce Websites are based on integration with a shopping cart.  The cost will vary based on many factors, but fall within several price ranges.

Cost Of Ecommerce Website

Ecommerce Option 1

In Ecommerce Option 1, we would use paypal exclusively for the payment.  You would register with paypal for your account, but we would set everything up.  We are making an assumption that there is one price for each item, regardless of size or color.  We would develop all your pages and setup a simple database that would allow the user to select the color and sizes.  We would use an attractive photo gallery type approach for the layout.  This will be custom to your company, and the simplest for you to Administer, but it will have the least amount of features.  For example, shipping costs, would be one set price for everyone.

Price rang: $1,000 to $2000

Ecommerce Option 2

In Ecommerce Option 2, we would use a shopping cart, one that has many features and is simple to set up and for you to administer.  We would use a pre designed layout.  I have selected two sample layouts you can look at, although there are hundreds available:

Price range: $2,000 to $3000

Ecommerce Option 3

In Ecommerce Option 3, we will install a high end fully featured shopping cart.  This has a lot of extra features, many of which you might not use, and has been designed for large companies, but is the most complete.  Keep in mind the more features you have available the more you will have to learn before you can make use of them.  Also, they have a higher initial cost, as well as a higher ongoing cost to maintain.   Here are some examples of designs for this approach:

Price range: $3,000 to $5000

The prices are for website design, development and configuration and setup of your shopping cart.  These prices do not include the cost for Domain Name, hostinghosting/las-vegas/hosting-las-vegas.html"> or Merchant account fees.  The time frame is usually 30 to 90 days, but depends heavily on the time for you to respond with comments and feedback, including the delivery of all product information, such as images, descriptions and pricing information.  Approach 2 and 3 use 3rd party shopping carts, and there are no additional monthly fees, except for the cost of your ongoing merchant account.
